FLASHBACK. If the needle is in you may see a flashback. It is dependent on two things:
1. The height of the reservoir / iv bag (a higher position will create more pressure in the veins which increases the chance of getting a flashback).
2. The gauge size of the needle. Small diameter needles 23 G and up, is less likely to give a clear flashback, 22 and lower (bigger needle lumen) is better for flashback, but it damages the tubes more and reduces the number of sticks that are possible before the arm starts to leak.
