Manufacturer's Description
--------------------------
The AS1018CD is a great personal shredder for home and office
use, you can shred up to 10 sheets of paper at a time into tiny
pieces of 4 x 37mm. In addition you can also shred 1 credit card
or 1 CD at a time, and don't worry if you accidentally shred a
paper clip or ste, this shredder will cope with both. Emptying
the 20 litre bin is easy, there is a viewing window to see if it
is full and there is a large carry handle so you can easily
remove the shredder from the bin.
This shredder also has many safety features including a thermal
cut out to prevent the shredder from over heating, a safety cut
out that prevents the shredder from operating while the waste bin
is removed and status indicators which alert you to a jam or
misaligned bin.
The AS1018CD is a great shredder for the home and office that
shreds quickly and quietly and is packed with some great
features, overall an excellent value for money shredder.
In addition the following information should be considered.
*Paper Capacity – the shredder has a maximum shred capacity of 10
sheets of 75gsm paper, meaning this is how much you can shred in
one go. If you increase the weight of the paper this capacity
goes down. A paper weight of 80gsm is very common in the UK, the
maximum capacity for 80gsm paper would be around 9 sheets, and
for 100gsm paper it would be closer to 8 sheets. If you don’t
know what type of paper you are shredding you may accidently
overload your shredder, if uncertainty exists regards the weight
of paper being shredded we suggest feeding in a maximum of 6 -7
sheets.
Safety cut outs – The shredder is fitted with a number of safety
measures for your protection; the first is a thermal cut out
which stops the unit from overheating. The AS1018CD is capable of
5 mins of constant use at the maximum shredding capacity of 10
sheets of 75 gsm paper before you risk overheating the unit. If
this happens the unit will switch off, cool down and then operate
again normally after about 30-40mins. You can extend the length
of continuous shred time by reducing the number of sheets you
shred in one go, most users never trigger the thermal cut out and
20 minutes of continuous shredding is quite possible.
The second safety cut out prevents the shredder from working
unless it is safely in place on the waste bin provided, care
should be taken when emptying the shredder that the shredder head
is located correctly on the waste bin with the viewing window at
the front. The shredder will only operate if placed correctly on
the waste basket provided.
What can you shred? This is a paper shredder but not all paper
products are suitable for shredding, some can even damage your
shredder. Below are a list of things which should not be placed
into any home paper shredder.
Adhesive labels and self seal envelopes or indeed anything with a
sticker on, as the gummed paper can become stuck to the shredder
mechanism, decreasing the shredding capacity.
Newspaper and glossy magazine paper due to the low quality of
paper which can create excessive paper dust.
Transparencies, fabrics, plastic other than credit cards – again
thin plastic and material can become stuck around the shredder
blades decreasing the shredding capacity.
Cardboard or card, this is generally too thick and can create
excessive paper dust.
You CAN shred paper, envelopes, small paper clips, small stes,
credit cards, and CD’s or DVD’s.
