Great book with a involving story and a large amount of gut busting laugh material. And as the author says, the bigger the better. Maximum boobage acquired, fire all issei hyodou+ master roshi pervert rockets at max perv.

Written by OKAYADO (Monster Musume Author)...but it has an actual story?? Before I move on to the review, I think I should explain. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love Monster Musume and own all the books to be released thus far but the story is kind of weak although it is funny when it aims to be. I mostly read those books to see the Monster Girls themselves and don't really care about the main character a lot as he is kind of a boring, cliche harem guy. Although Monster Musume is more of a harem series, I do believe it's possible to write that type of story with a likeable main male lead. Which leads to my actual review of 12 Beast Vol.1! Now, I won't rehash the plot as you can just read the Amazon description and get the basic premise. What I will do though is point out some things that might not be evident. While Eita Touga (or Touga Eita if you want) is kind of a coward when it comes to confrontation, he does actually know how to fight and holds his own in battle. He has an actual personality and opinions that he shares with those around him. And even though he does have the cowardly trait, he can suck it up and get the job at hand done. Also, I feel as though I should mention that the Harpies, the only race really seen in this volume, have their own culture and viewpoints and are actually interesting. The only thing that you might find annoying is his constant use of video game terms while speaking to others("We can't just pull a Leeroy Jenkins!! If this were a FPS...we'd get totally pwned!!") If you can get past that, you'll be fine. One more thing: where Monster Musume has a lot of fanservice, 12 Beast toned it down considerably and instead offers more detail to the world of Re-Verse and gives characters more depth than you'd expect. A fun Shonen romp and I'm looking forward to the second volume. I would definitely recommended this book.

In this manga from the creator of “Monster Musume”, we follow Touga, a high school boy who loves video games, a bit weak at fighting and is the younger brother of a ninja. At his ninja training, he meets a ninja-obsessed harpy captain named Aero who unexpectedly transports him with her to the fantasy world of Re-Verse and believes that he can save her harpy people from mammoth monster robots. Reluctantly he partners with them and after a lucky shot, he hopes to become stronger as his new journey begins. While it’s a bit cliche with it’s obvious tropes, “Beast” is still a nice looking story that has action packed excitement and is more tamer than “Musume”, at least for now. I hope Touga can become the hero he’s dreamed of being, while also meeting new beastly girls. <b>B+ (83%/Very Good)</b>

As big a fan as I am of Monster Musume, I've become just as attached to 12 Beast since I first picked up this series. While there isn't as much romance as in Okayado's hit series, rest assured that 12 Beast packs just as much comedy and fanservice as it's elder sibling. However, don't mistake this series as a fantasy version of MonMusu; 12 Beast a whole different breed of animal. Yes, there is fanservice in this series, but compared to MonMusu, there's actually a lot less when you put the two side-by-side in this regard. Also, as a work of shounen/seinen action-fantasy, there's a lot more in the way of combat and typical tropes such as ninja weaonry, giant mecha, and so on and so forth. It just goes to show you the versitility of Okayado's art and writing styles, and how he can create great works of fiction across a variety of genres. Seven Seas' translation continues to impress and amuse, as some of the translated text is grin-worthy and silly in all the right places. As I am a sucker for world-building supplimental material, I found the information on the Harpy village and their culture to be intriguing, and just as with MonMusu, I enjoy the amount of creativity and thought that went into it's inception on Okayado's part. If you're a fan of MonMusu- and even if you're not- I would definitely recommend picking this series up. I alread own the first three volumes, and anxiously await the next installment in the series. 5 out of 5.

Product shipped and arrived in great condition, I'm just not the biggest fan of the actual manga. For sure worth a read, but personally it didn't grab me how I was thinking it would. Just my opinion ^^

Okay, we all know and love OKAYADO because of his simplistic smut at Monster Musume. This time, it looks like we get another different style of story which is meant to be character-driven, unlike his previous work. The results leave something to be desired. The main character is not your run-of-the-mill crouching moron, hidden badass, instead, he's a nerd with background which help us understand why is he chosen as the hero. So, he embarks on an adventure (i.e. is forced to), and there is this big world where the author tries to create an entire, self-sufficient universe for the story to happen. That's the good part. The design looks lazy at times, but at least we get more characters than the few baddie of the week recipe from the other comic. However, it even feels like the smut is forced into the mix when we could have gone with more mild displays without feeling uncanny to the tale. However, if you came here for the Monster Girls, enjoy!

This is a battle themed manga by the same guy that did everyday monster girls. The story is more about adrenaline filled battle scenes than common sense. It's a fun read. Books physical construction is average all round in terms of typical manga quality.

J'ai découvert cette série juste après "Monster Musume" du même auteur. On reconnaît assez bien sa patte (dessin au top, humour omniprésent et un peu d'ecchi). On y retrouve les fameuses monster girls ... et des robots géants ! A voir sans faute.

A good manga for those who like fantasy stories looking forward to the next book and hopefully a great series
