This actually works
I picked up one of these at TJ Maxx the other night as a gift to myself--came home and tried it out and have ordered another one here on Amazon to give as a Christmas present. The kit consists of a bowl, a microwave slotted tray to put your potato slices in, a mandolin style slicing blade, and a spiked handle to use to hold the potato so that you do not accidentally slice off the end of one of your fingers. I scrubbed a potato and sliced it with the blade--requires a bit more pressure than the blade on my big mandolin slicer but the slices were VERY thin and consistent and did cut pretty quickly. I arranged the slices in the tray, shook a little sea salt over the slices, put the tray on a paper plate and zapped it two minutes in the microwave. VOILA--potato chips! Crispy but NO additives other than what I chose to put on them. And they were tasty. I am of the school where I believe the microwave is an expensive clock/food warmer but not really worth much as far as cooking is concerned. Frozen vegetables? sure. Meat? NEVER. I've tried a couple of dessert things in the past and have always found the texture/taste unsatisfactory. So I was REALLY pleased that these potato chips tasted pretty much like potato chips--maybe even a little better since they were made from a fresh potato. We ate with catsup since they have a nice potato-y flavor--pretty good. My one criticism would be that this is a SMALL set--the tray doesn't hold that many slices and for a small-medium potato it took me three rounds in the microwave to cook all the chips. However--that's what? Six minutes? I think there are larger trays out there if I really think the time is a problem. I don't. The chips do shrink quite a bit, and I could see myself in future just trashing/composting the smaller end slices of the potato because they tend to fall through the cracks on the tray--but it's a minor detail. I like it and anticipate using it regularly. I hope my daughter likes it as well.

Wish it was larger
This item was smaller than I was anticipating and wished it was able to make more chips at a time. I also had a problem with the potatoes wrapping around the holder while cooking so had to break the chips to get it off. The slicer worked great to cut up potatoes, sweet potatoes, and squash.

Awesome Microwave Potato Chip Maker
This is ingenious…..one idaho potato will give you about 40 chips! I have two of these so I can prepare the second batch while waiting for the first to finish in the microwave. The slicer is perfect but be aware there is no safety cover so when you wash it and store it, you absolutely must be careful. I slice the potato, put the slices in a bowl of cold water, pat the slices dry (I put a clean dish towel on counter covered with two layers of paper towels then use another paper towel to pat the chips dry), then to a bowl with about two tablespoons of olive oil and a bit of garlic salt, use your bare hands to coat all the slices then line them up in the circular holder! About 5-8 minutes later, you have perfect, crunchy potato chips! In the past I would cook the chips in the microwave on a large plate with parchment paper on it….you would have to keep turning the chips. This device really speeds the process…..only problem is that the chips are eaten BEFORE you have an opportunity to make several batches! Do not hesitate to buy this great chip maker!

You say potato, I say potato chips.
I was very surprised by this product. I ordered it for my pre-teen son, who had seen a video promoting it. He enjoys cooking and thought this would be a fun tool in the kitchen. The package arrived quickly. The product is as described, if not better than described. The bowl is a very thick, sturdy plastic. The built in mandoline slicer is a little small for regular size russets, but would work well with small potatoes. We ended up using a slicer we already had since our potatoes were too large. I was skeptical of what the final result would be, I mean, microwaved potato chips???!! Come on... BUT, they turned out amazing. Nice and crispy, just like store bought potato chips, minus the oil... Yes, it’s true, you would have to make many batches to equal a “full size bag of chips” as I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews. But as a snack, and a healthier chip option, this makes the prefect handful. And even if you need to make a larger batch, it’s microwaved!!! It doesn’t take that long to make multiple batches... I would highly recommend this product.

Just buy a bag of chips, don’t bother with this
This product is garbage. Please don’t waste your money. I bought this for my teenage son. Followed the instructions exactly. It is very small and makes very few chip. The second round in the microwave, after waiting more the the allotted cool down time- I smelled burning! The chips were burning and the plastic was melting. I wish I took a photo, but that thing got watered down and right out to the trash it went. Definitely a fire hazard! If you want to waste your money, don’t leave the kitchen.

Brought one. Should have brought 4 as 4 would fit in the micro at once to speed up the process. One potato makes about 4 cooks/rounds hence should have brought 4. Only use the micro rack now as use my own mandolin and bowl to catch cuts. So instead of buying more just for the racks - I’m looking for large racks only.

This is amazing! I bought it as a christmas gift and the recipent just sent me a video of the chips he made. They are very crispy, thin sliced chips. The slicer works great too! Only complaint is it doesnt hold enough chips, but cook time is very quick for an easy, quick refill! We are both impressed with the outcome. Will definantly consider purchasing again.
