Cherry ‘Kordia’ is an outstanding variety of eating cherry that produces dark purple fruits with a mouth-watering sweetness. Introduced only recently, it is grown specifically for its unusually large fruits, which are produced in abundance and are ready for harvesting in early August. The cherries are resistant to splitting, even during wet summer weather, helping to ensure that you receive a bumper crop. It is estimated that fruits will appear two years after ing and the best yields can be enjoyed after four years. ‘Kordia’ is not a self-fertile variety, so to ensure the biggest yields be sure to grow it alongside another variety. This could be a neighbour’s tree if you only have room for one in your own garden. Cherry trees can be ed in any well-drained soil as long as it is in a sunny, sheltered position. Before ing, be sure to incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the ing hole and drive a supporting stake into the ground.
